Good Technology - Poor Implementation!

ABSTRACT:
RMI installation inefficiencies cost Washington Mutual a 22% premium. Complex solutions require CIO's and Network Administrators examine how users interact with technology, the impact on performance and what it means to IT management requirements at various levels of operation.

A smart implementation technique could have saved WaMu more than five hundred thousand dollars in product purchases. The IT department would have realized reductions in daily maintenance, reduced the potential for a breach of network security and found hidden value in the remote management infrastructure (RMI). Find out what went wrong!

California Department of Motor Vehicles - Integrated Operation!

ABSTRACT:
California Department of Motor Vehicles required a matrix system that could switch video and audio across two separate backbones with a unique requirement for user and administrator managed operation. Computer video and audio switches fit the source signals and cost half that of traditional A/V switches.

Professional A/V matrix systems could do the job but offered a clumsy user interface, required more power, twice as many network drops and were far too expensive compared to computer switch systems.

And, SLACi software from Global Serv provided integration that could further reduce the cost from nearly $80,000 for Pro A/V switches to just under $20,000 for independent computer switches!

NBC - High Throughput or Shared Operation!

ABSTRACT:
Based on traditional implementation of A/V switching, IT managers at NBC, FOX & other broadcast firms have similar request based on misperceptions of computer switching.

The initial Request for Proposal (RFP) Specifications required twenty five to thirty user workstation positions that could access and operate up to sixty computer systems. At these target and source device levels, the matrix requirements are beyond the capability of typical hardware backbones. A complex topology could meet the demand for full access but the price tag would be over $100,000.

A little time spent understanding the fundamental operating requirements reduced the initial product quotes to less than $30,000.

AT&T - Narrow Focus Limited Operation!

ABSTRACT:
The network services division of AT&T asked Tron to design a KVM switch topology they would later use for their own client. When the operation didn't meet client expectations, AT&T directed users to the technical support department of the product vendor. Instead, the client called Tron for support and it was easy to identify the design.

Unfortunately, the operating problems were related to how the system was implemented. AT&T duplicated the topology seven times in an attempt to meet the client's operational requirements.

Walgreens - Infrastructure Chaos!

ABSTRACT:
Over two thousand network switches with inconsistent protocols for management makes efficient remote access a difficult task for most IT technicians. Cheat sheets provide records of which switches have been converted but IT personnel still need to identify the require protocol manually. Automation resolves remote access inefficiencies, interface selection and improves security.

Retail - Follow-the-User Integration

ABSTRACT:
Follow-the-User expands the interaction between technology and users. Increase hardware security with centralized back-office management, remote support services and integrated media exchange offered this retailer more than they could dream.

Trial-n-Error, Blocked Access or Out-of-Operation!

ABSTRACT:
Providing network services relies on many more tools than the KVM switches and console servers that define a "Remote Management Infrastructure" (RMI). The maintenance network is vast - beyond the dreams of Everest and control of any single industry or vendor.

Fortunately there are solutions that help improve the job of managing IT infrastructures. Discover the solutions and meet the team of professionals that put them together. You'll find we are all alike - working stiffs like you and me who combined their expertise to battle the day-to-day complexities of IT operations and take on the Goliath's who tried to stifle progress.

Proxy Access & Security

ABSTRACT:
Diverse remote management software and infrastructure hardware solutions complicate IT efforts in managing servers. I found working with Global Serv solutions provide extraordinary levels of interaction between many different types of host interfaces and maintenance networks.

Whether the operational environment is based around conference rooms or you have high security requirements, the combination of SLACi, Remote Access Manager and My KVM Networks simplifies access to maintenance networks structured on multiple types of protocols and management platforms.

Olympus Tools & Boeing - Conference Room Operations

ABSTRACT:
Simple! A large screen monitor, video projector, a blank wall and notebook computers. What's so difficult to understand? Plug in source video (notebooks) and display it where you want. Management didn't think that was so simple - and, they were right. Most don't know there are hidden switches already in the room.

Boeing had a similar situation where they owned several different switches but no simple method of operation. You do not have to spend more money on more hardware. Leverage existing switch technologies with integrated operation instead!
