SLACi - Integrating Remote Management Infrastructure Technologies
ABSTRACT:
|
Integrating remote management infrastructure technologies has been possible but at a great
expense to data center efficiencies and user operation. Until now, the
process has left data center administrators and users operating the RMI manually.
Global Serv's SLACi marries matrix technologies of any type model and brand -
switched and switch-less, in-band and out-of-band solutions whether interconnected
or isolated to improve the user experience and reduce cost.
SLACi software solutions fit end user applications in data center and server farm
operations, media and emergency response centers, conference rooms and the court room.
Each application uses similar remote management, audio and video matrix switch technology
but with very different objects and deployment requirements. SLACi - an off-the-shelf
software solutions closes the gap between hardware operation and functional user requirements.

Avocent DSR vs Raritan DKX - Side-by-Side Feature Comparison
ABSTRACT:
|
A side-by-side product comparison of the most popular KVMoIP switches. Complete with detailed notes that explain the real cost of features the marketing jargon used to lure you into a purchase. Summarized by brand with an extensive list of features and complete list of brand-model differences with a comparison price matrix.
Update: Today matrix configurations are priced exactly the same. The most important price related factors continue to be in the implementation and cost of features. Therefore, selection should be based on features, video quality and differences in management methods.

Remote Network Management - Console Servers, Service & Maintenance Port
ABSTRACT:
|
Managing network infrastructure equipment is an essential component of every network.
Early architectures of network equipment, computers like Sun and other Unix systems
relied on RS-232 terminal type consoles for management purposes. Today, Linux on x86
platforms, Windows EMS (Emergency Management Services) & Server 2008 all offer
console connections for low level access.
We reviewed seventeen products from eight manufacturers in developing this 16 page Excel chart
that details and compares products side by side. Our technical paper highlights the technology,
where its used, major vendors and their products. We dredged through the most common features
to find those that stand-out the most!

The Progress of KVM Technology
ABSTRACT:
|
Ten years later, enterprise keyboard, video and mouse switching technology has undergone
extraordinary changes. Technology, once limited to a few hundred devices can now support
10,000 devices on a single backbone. The benefits of increased user throughput and system
capacity has been enhanced with a footprint and prices that are a fraction of early technology.
Compare the details of resource requirements for FreeVision, UltraView, ViewPoint and the
XP4000 switch systems compared to the latest Cat 5 switch requirements (ie: AMX, Paragon
and Xtensis)
Follow-On: 2009 - The most imporatant feature to compare today is whether
Remote Management Infrastructures integrate with Data Center Automation.

Can Dissimilar Out-of-Band Remote Management Switch Systems Co-Exist
ABSTRACT:
|
All too often we find ourselves with the need to interconnect KVM and Video switches of
different brands, makes and models. This overview tells you what challenges are involved
and how to overcome difficulties along the way.
Sidebars - Diasy Chain vs Cascade vs Teired
Seemingly interchangeable, these terms have useful definitions that aid in your product selection. A natural sidebar to co-existing and interconnecting different I/O switches, Diasy Chain, Cascade and Teired can indicate how integrated the On-Screen-Menu (OSD) systems will be.

Cat 5 KVM Switches - A New Technology Summary
ABSTRACT:
|
Raritan introduced the first Cat 5 KVM switch in late 1999. It would be more than three years before Avocent shipped the AMX and another year for ATEN - five more before Rose released the Xtensis. Which of these switch systems can be integrated with your original switches and what advantages do these analog switches have over KVMoIP switching technology.
AMX, KMO, Paragon and Xtensis - the important question in 2009 is which ones can be integrated into the automated data center. Not all of them support DCA initiatives, each fits into different user groups, data center operations and various sizes of applications

Paragon vs AMX – Compared Side-by-Side
ABSTRACT:
|
This paper draws a direct comparison between Raritan's Paragon and Avocent's AMX - two KVM switch
systems that compete head on for small, medium and large data center operations. These platforms
support 16 to 64 ports with any mix of GUI and network devices that use ASCII consoles.
Cat 5 architectures easily claim industry title for "Best of Breed". Simply by eliminating coax
cables between servers and the switch we eliminate clutter and recover valuable rack space. See
how closely these products appear and differences that distinguish each as a leader.

AMX Under Review - One Year Later
ABSTRACT:
|
AMX, announced in mid 2002 had a turbulent year in 2003 when it was finally released. After months of working out the kinks, where does the AMX stand today, what makes it unique and is it a full featured solution that can stand on its own like pervious Avocent products?
Despite the kinks, AMX progressed in a positive direction from our initial review. It's feature rich offering high quality video but doesn't include native support for the automated data center. But integration features allow you to launch third party solutions for integrated operation.

ATEN KMO Product Review - Altusen Cat 5 KVM Switch Solution
ABSTRACT:
|
Aten announced their first Cat 5 KVM switch in 2003 and started shipping it in mid 2004. We spent four months picking it apart and detailed our findings in this KVM newsletter. What does this product offer KVM switch users, is it worth taking a look and will it perform to your expectations?
The January 2005 KVM Newsletter explores the inner workings of this new I/O switch and reveals some great features long forgotten by other vendors. Those working in development and QA labs will want to take a close look.

The Digital Mouse - UltraLink - Rose's Best Kept Secret
ABSTRACT:
|
This is "Need To Know" information for any and all taking the plunge into digital KVM switch technology (KVMoIP). See one of the greatest feature the industry has to offer, and learn why it's such a critical factor for users managing KVM signals via the TCP/IP network.
Why does your mouse seem to operate poorly? Is there anything you can do about it? Some products offer adjustments - others don't. Learn if which KVMoIP switches support mouse resets, offer adjustments and other special features and how to activate them. Discover the features you should look for the most in a new KVMoIP switch.

Viewpoint - A Migration Path & Economics
ABSTRACT:
|
This paper discusses the economics and replacement options Viewpoint users have over the next 24 months. One product stands out as a natural replacement. Changeover will release a large portion of the infrastructure Viewpoint currently consumes.
There will be a secondary market for components so how long will it last and how can you recover the highest value for used parts? How long should you wait will determine how much you pay for replacement components.

FreeVision is Gone - So What Do You Do Now
ABSTRACT:
|
CCC Group went belly up and Raritan acquired the business. FreeVision users will need to know the current status of support, parts availability and future development. Continued expansion or spares parts is a small piece of the picture - what are the economics of replacement.
Follow-On: Now that the product has been discontinued, what are the options for replacement or migrating to a new KVM switch system? The best replacement products will cost a fraction of the spare parts and support much high server capacity than FreeVision. And, you can throw away your maintenance contracts - the latest technologies come without the maintenance demands.
