Planning KVM Hardware Placement
and Resource Requirements
Best practice deployments for any KVM switch system. Once the
approach is planned, you'll understand the prerequisites associated
with the installation and how early product selection will influence
the resource requirements. And, you will be able to schedule the
appropriate services to ensure your KVM Network solution is on-line
- on-time.
The number of servers per rack determine where
switches should be placed. Where switches are placed and user
throughput determine your structured cable requirements.
When deploying KVM switches in the server racks, plan enough structured
cable drops for each switch output or console port. For example,
you'll need four (4) drops for a 4x42 chassis or eight (8) drops
for a 8x32 chassis. Conversely, you'll need one (1) additional drop
per server if KVM switches are placed in the network rack.
PCI KVM devices like eRIC, RiLoe, iLoe and DRAC have similar requirements
for the network switches.
